Prime Minister Miloš Vučević met with Cardinal Secretary of State of the Holy See Pietro Parolin to discuss key topics for strengthening the overall relations between Serbia and the Holy See.
Vučević emphasised that Serbia highly values the principled position of the Holy See regarding non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo despite the pressures it suffers due to such a decision.
The Prime Minister expressed his concern about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and pointed out that it is necessary to put international pressure on Priština in order to continue the dialogue with Belgrade and stop the terror against Serbs.
They also discussed the property that was owned by the Roman Catholic Church and is now subject to restitution, the reconstruction of buildings owned by the church, the return of religious education as an optional subject in schools, as well as other topics of importance to both parties.
Cardinal Parolin expressed the hope that a compromise solution for Kosovo and Metohija will be achieved through the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština, while preserving peace and stability, and he stressed that only through dialogue can a solution acceptable to all be reached.
As he stated, Serbia and the Holy See have good relations and constructive cooperation, which will be further improved with mutual respect.
