Minister of European Integration Tanja Miščević stated today that the purpose of organising the EU Opportunity Week is to show how Serbia can make the best use of the potential offered by its status as a candidate for EU membership.
At the opening of this gathering at the European House in Belgrade, Miščević pointed out that the priority is the reform agenda and the Growth Plan.
She noted that the EU has realised that there are many elements for progress for countries that are in the process of negotiations, which can provide economic impetus to achieve a better and faster convergence with the EU average, concurrently bringing them closer to membership.
European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi addressed the gathering in a video message, saying that the EU Opportunity Week represents a long partnership between Serbia and the European Union.
Regarding the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, he stated that it promotes the region’s economic integration with the EU and has the potential to double the economies of the Western Balkans in the next decade.
Serbia’s place is in the European Union, which is fully committed to supporting the country on the road to modernisation and reforms, he emphasised, adding that the EU is Serbia’s partner on this journey.
