Milosavljevic, who chaired a meeting of the working group for flu pandemics, held at the Dr Vukan Cupic institute today, said that the forthcoming autumn will provide a challenge for the whole of Europe.
According to him, vaccination against seasonal flu will be organised in October and surveillance of respiratory diseases will be increased.
WHO’s recommendations say that priority groups include chronically ill patients, pregnant women and employees in public services, said Milosavljevic.
Milosavljevic said that the amounts of vaccines held in reserve were increased to provide for 3% of the country’s population.
The vaccination of two billion people in the world is planned, he said and noted that it will start in America and Great Britain at the end of this year.
The Minister explained that 15-20% of the people carrying the virus H1N1 are not even aware that they are infected, which increases the risk of the virus spreading.
President of the Ministry of Health’s special working group for implementing the plan of activities before and during the flu pandemic Predrag Kon said that the number of infected patients has not changed during the past two weeks and still stands at 131 infected persons.
