FATF welcomed Serbia's significant progress in improving the system of anti-money laundering and terrorist financing, and assessed that Serbia strengthened mechanisms in that area, and it also made great efforts in implementing the FATF Action Plan in order to correct shortcomings in technical and strategic field, to which this body pointed out in February last year.
Taking this into account, Serbia is no longer under FATF monitoring in the context of further harmonization with standards in the area of prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism.
It was also estimated that there is political commitment at the highest level, as well as institutional capacities for continuing the implementation of reforms in the area of prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism.
The recommendation that Serbia continues to improve its mechanisms in this area through cooperation with Manival stays in place.
During a part of the session at which the progress report for Serbia in the implementation of the FATF Action Plan, Justice Minister Nela Kuburovic, representing the Government of the Republic of Serbia, said that Serbia is committed at the highest political level to combating money laundering and terrorist financing, which has also been recognized by FATF.
The Minister announced that the new national strategy for the prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism will be adopted by the end of 2019.
