Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in Dubai that today Serbia is one of only 11 countries in the world that introduced artificial intelligence in elementary and secondary schools at the national level.
Speaking at the panel entitled “Sustainable Development Goals in Action”, Brnabic underlined that our goal is to prepare our population for jobs of the future, adding that four science parks have already been built in Serbia, whereas BIO4 Campus, which should be completed by 2025, is a pledge for our future.
According to the Prime Minister, the ICT sector is the fastest-growing sector in the country by far, with a growth of over 25 percent annually, whereas last year alone it grew by 40 percent.
Every second new job in 2022 in Serbia was in this sector, she said and explained that the growth of the ICT sector also helped industry and agriculture to grow and to increase social security.
Technology gives young people opportunities they have never had before. It is up to us to re-design the future in order to build a world in which no one will lag behind, the Prime Minister underlined.
She also noted that the world is in the biggest crisis ever and that it has never been such a complex place to live in like today.
Specifically, there are three crucial challenges the world is facing – the first is war, the second is climate change and its consequences, and the third is the population problem, because we have a lack of population on one side and overpopulation on the other, she explained.
The Prime Minister underlined that it is frustrating that all the above-mentioned is happening at a time when we discovered the greatest treasure, and that is technology.
Technology can create benefit for all if we cooperate and share experiences. If we look at all 17 sustainable development goals, they can be achieved through a smart use of technology, Brnabic stated and cited Serbia as an example.
She recalled that the government set reform of the education system and digitalisation as key priorities six years ago because we realised that the Fourth Industrial Revolution is our opportunity.
