Today, President Aleksandar Vucic attended the opening of the new runway at Nikola Tesla Airport, which is one of the biggest investments at Belgrade Airport since its construction.
On that occasion, Vucic explained that the new runway will replace the existing one, which will soon be reconstructed, and the work is expected to be completed in the first half of 2024.
After that, the newly built runway will remain in use as a parallel taxiway and as an alternative runway in case of need, he said, adding that after the overhaul of the existing runway, the airport’s capacity will be increased from six million passengers to 14 million.
Vucic assessed that the concession agreement with VINCI is one of the five best things the state has done, adding that we are now proud of the Belgrade airport.
French Ambassador to Serbia Pierre Koshar pointed out that today a new page is being written in cooperation between Serbia and France and added that the Belgrade airport is a recognisable symbol of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
He assessed that Nikola Tesla Airport is on its way to becoming a regional hub in air traffic, connecting the economic centers of the Balkans and Southeast Europe.
CEO of Belgrade Airport Francois Berisot pointed out that the new runway is 3.5 km long, 100 meters longer than the existing one, with a total area of approximately 210,000 square metres. The project includes the construction of associated maneuvering areas and four new taxiways, while the existing three will be reconstructed, he specified.
