On the basis of this agreement, legal entities and individuals with residence or headquarters in Serbia will be able to apply for project financing in the European Union and will be on an equal footing with entities from EU full member states when it comes to the allocation of grants from EU funds.
Our IT firms and scientists will be able to apply for the following areas of digitisation: artificial intelligence, High Performance Computing (HPC), advanced digital skills, and the development and application of digital capabilities and interoperability.
The total value of the Digital Europe Programme is estimated at €7.5 billion.
Jovanovic assessed that this is excellent news for the further development of the information and communication technology sector in Serbia, IT companies of various sizes, for researchers, scientists and innovators, increasing the standards and competitiveness of the domestic economy and IT industry.
Few could have imagined what success Serbia would achieve when, on the initiative of Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, digitisation became one of the government's priorities in 2017. Today, only six years later, the export of the ICT sector breaks records year after year, last year it amounted to approximately €2.7 billion, he pointed out.
According to him, in the first four months of this year, a further growth of exports of about 43 percent and an increase in the number of employees in IT companies by approximately 3,500 was recorded.
The next step forward in digitisation is the application of artificial intelligence and that is why this agreement with the European Union is so significant, explained the Minister and added that our IT companies and scientists now have an equal opportunity to access funds of up to €7.5 billion as if we were an EU member state.
