Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Milos Vucevic attended today the marking of the 82nd anniversary of the pogrom committed during the "Novi Sad Raid" in World War II.
On that occasion, Vucevic lowered a wreath into the water of the Danube, from the RML335 Apatin ship.
The commemoration of the victims of the pogrom at the "Family" monument was organised by the City of Novi Sad, the Jewish Municipality and the Eparchy of Backa, and the prayer memorial was held by Bishop of Backa Irinej, while the commemorative ceremony of the Jewish community, the memorial service and the sermon was held by Chief Rabbi of Serbia Isak Asiel.
The programme marking the 82nd anniversary of the pogrom committed during the "Novi Sad Raid" this year is called "Ice Silence" and aims to preserve the memory of the suffering of the inhabitants of Novi Sad in World War II, when between 1,300 and 1,700 Serbs, Jews and Roma perished in an action of the Hungarian occupation forces, including a large number of women, children and the elderly.
