Begovic pointed out that Columbia University is one of the most prestigious universities in the United States of America, and therefore one of the best universities on a global level.
The Minister stated that within this university there are four campuses, several hundred research centres, as well as institutes, among which their centre for medicine, i.e., biomedicine, stands out.
The very fact that they have a budget of over a billion dollars annually for research shows what a really powerful scientific system it is. This university really has the best education in the world, and on the other hand, it is an extremely strong centre for research, the Minister said.
She pointed out that connecting with such an educational and research centre, a powerful point at the global level, would give a chance for scientific cooperation, as well as technology transfer.
Over the past years, this campus has worked intensively to ensure that society has a direct benefit, not only in education, but also in technological transfer and the development of innovations. Over four hundred inventions annually and several dozen startups are founded from such an ecosystem, she explained.
Begovic said that the goal of the delegation's stay in the United States of America is to promote Serbia and show what Serbia can do and what it offers to the world, as well as what kind of cooperation with Serbia can be established and added that the delegation had very good discussions where they presented the idea of BIO4 campus.
We heard about the experiences at Columbia University, given that they are building one campus at a time, and the campuses are worth several billion dollars each, Begovic said.
The Minister added that another goal of this visit is to improve the idea of the BIO4 campus in the sphere of technology transfer and in the sphere of cooperation between academia and industry.
At Columbia University, there is extremely strong science, which is effectively translated into concrete products and services, and we agreed that we should establish a closer relationship with our universities, but also to establish closer ties with their startups, which may be able to find their place for further development in Serbia, she concluded.
