First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic extended his condolences to the wife of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.
"Dear Mila,
Please accept the expressions of sincere and deep condolences for the irreparable loss of your husband and father of the Mulroney family, the 18th Prime Minister of Canada, a world leader, but also a Serbian son-in-law, who supported the Serbian community in Canada, respecting the efforts of Dimitrije Pivnicki, the father of his beloved wife Mila to raise endowments, such as the Holy Trinity Church in Montreal.
Even in this difficult moment, we remember his last visit to Belgrade in 2019, when I had the honour of presenting you with a significant award from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia - Knight of Saint Sava Pacifism. On that occasion, together with Brian, we presented a book about the Pivnicki family called "Mila’s country of ancestors - the Pivnicki family in the history of Novi Becej". It was touching to see the joy and pride on the face of the world leader, who was proud of his wife with whom he founded a family.
In these difficult moments, I assure you that the country of your ancestors, Serbia, sympathizes with the pain of the Mulroney and Pivnicki families and expresses its deepest gratitude to Brian for everything he did for the Serbian people.
Glory to him and thanks!", reads the telegram of condolences.
