The Working Group for the Establishment of the Memorial Centre for the Victims of the Mass Murder at the Vladislav Ribnikar Experimental Elementary School in Belgrade, which was formed by the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, held its seventh session today, where this programme was discussed.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the Multidisciplinary Team for the establishment of the Memorial Centre determined the commemoration programme accepted by the Working Group, which will begin tomorrow at 8:40 a.m., at 10 Kralja Milutina Street, when the families of the murdered students, relatives and friends will lay flowers and light candles.
The Working Group with the Multidisciplinary Team, which includes the parents of the murdered children, appeals to all organised groups of citizens and organisations that want to pay their respects and lay flowers to do so after 10:30 a.m.
Citizens will be able to lay flowers, light candles and write in the Books of Remembrance.
Tomorrow at 8:41 a.m., as well as on 4 May 2024 at 10:32 p.m., the media in Serbia will mark the anniversary of the tragedies by interrupting the programme, by darkening the screens and interrupting the broadcast of the television and radio programme during one minute with the text: "3 and 4 May 2023. We Remember."
Commemorative Day marks the beginning of a multi-layered process of memorialisation. It is made up of a spatial-artistic installation that enables dignified paying of respects to victims at the scene of the crime.
The spatial-artistic installation at 10 Kralja Milutina Street will remain in the public space as a symbol of shared memory until the start of work on the establishment of the Memorial Centre.
On that day, a Forum will be held in the Tašmajdan Park, near the monument to Desanka Maksimović, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the last segment of the entire event, "Awakening", will begin at 8 p.m. in the Student Cultural Centre.
