Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Jelena Begović spoke today with the leadership of the KITE Research Institute in Toronto about the possibilities of cooperation in the fields of innovation and technological development.
Begović also visited the Challenging Environmental Assessment Laboratory at this institute, which is currently the world’s leading centre for rehabilitation and development of innovations and solutions for people living with disabilities and, unfortunately, experiencing serious consequences due to various types of illnesses.
According to her, in addition to serving this group of people, the centre also caters to older adults, offering solutions to prevent certain injuries and thereby enabling their inclusion in everyday activities.
Begović stated that this institute is led by Serbian scientist and innovator Miloš Popović, who, along with his team of 200 scientists and engineers, simulates various life situations in special chambers – from falling on ice to driving a car – and uses science and technology to analyse and prevent injuries.
The Minister also visited the University of Toronto and the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, the workshop of the Centre for Research and Applications in Fluidic Technologies at the Bahen Centre for Information Technology, and an autonomous lab at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy.
The commitment of all stakeholders to fostering innovation is a general impression and a great strength of the University of Toronto. They intertwine and work for the benefit of all Canadian citizens, and their innovations represent new technologies that change the world, the Minister concluded.
