Mandatory military service from next September

Prime Minister Miloš Vučević said today that the idea is for mandatory military service, lasting 75 days, to begin in September 2025, that is, for the first class of soldiers to be produced in the spring of the following year.

Vučević said that the start of compulsory military services requires not only amending the law and administrative technical measures but also preparing barracks, logistics and medical centres where recruits will be examined.

After these conditions are in place, the preparation of the entire process and training will follow, which will be challenging for officers and non-commissioned officers, who will carry out basic military training for the new army, that is, new recruits in 75 days, he said.

The Prime Minister reiterated that mandatory military service will apply to men up to the age of 30, and that the goal is to have 20,000 recruits in the barracks of the Serbian Armed Forces annually.

We are working hard to restore the former garrison centres, which, unfortunately, we lost or abolished. All young recruits will be informed on time, the public will be informed, the Prime Minister said and pointed out that we have no army from Zaječar to Niš.

According to him, the state will also look to hire special profiles, for example, someone who graduates from an electrical engineering or mechanical engineering faculty or school and who would be engaged at the Military Technical Institute, that is, in the specialised services of the Serbian Army.

The Prime Minister added that the state will look for a way to enable the passing of driver’s licences for B, C and E categories so that future recruits do not have to pay for passing the test as civilians.
