Belgrade Declaration receives full support

Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Jelena Begović stated today, following the Ministerial Summit held within the framework of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence Summit, that the Belgrade Declaration, whose topic is the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI), is expected to be adopted by the end of the year.

Begović said that all attendees provided positive feedback and full support on the matter, explaining that it is necessary for the European Union to administratively complete its procedure by the end of the year in order for the declaration to be adopted.

What is crucial is that we received praise and strong support from all the summit member countries that attended this gathering, as well as from all international organisations, which means that Serbia is on the right track when it comes to AI, she said.

According to her, the declaration represents a framework for how the world’s most developed countries should develop and regulate AI in the future.

The declaration applies to everyone, in the same way that artificial intelligence affects everyone. It involves states and governments, as well as the private and academic sectors, civil society and individuals, the Minister specified, emphasising that this document lays the foundation for the further development of AI at the global level.

Begović expressed hope that a new strategy for the development of artificial intelligence will be adopted by the end of the year, and that work on the legal framework for the further development and application of AI will be completed next year.
