Vojislav Kostunica and Predrag Markovic
Following a meeting with the Serbian parliament Speaker, Kostunica said that at this moment it is important that Serbia gets a new constitution, with the consensus of all parliamentary parties.
That was important in the previous period as well, the Serbian Prime Minister said and recalled that as early as March 30, 2004, the parliament made a decision on starting the adoption of a new constitution and a few months later government parties forwarded a draft of the constitution.
"At this moment Serbia is crying out for a constitution which is the foundation of a modern and well-regulated state," Kostunica pointed out and reiterated that the constitution must be brought with the agreement and consensus of all political powers in Serbia.
"We concluded that there are many reasons for optimism and that this job will soon be completed," Kostunica said.
Markovic voiced readiness to schedule talks on the issue as soon as today with Serbian President Boris Tadic and representatives of all parliamentary parties.
He said that after the consultations, a joint meeting of all relevant factors would probably be held in order to accelerate the process of adopting the new constitution.
