Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić welcomed members of the Serbian Armed Forces today at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport upon their return from a six-month deployment with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The regular contingent rotation included an infantry company from the Third Army Brigade, staff officers and a team of specialists responsible for supporting the mission.
The Minister of Defence extended a warm welcome to the peacekeepers, expressing gratitude for their successful execution of demanding peacekeeping duties, as was the case with previous rotations, and voicing satisfaction that all members returned safely.
Gašić noted that the peacekeepers represented the country with dignity in an international environment, under complex security conditions, adding that their task was far from easy, given the unstable situation in Lebanon.
According to him, through their courage and dedication, the peacekeepers showcased the true character of the Serbian Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence and the Republic of Serbia.
Thanks to their commitment, effort and professionalism, the peacekeepers have successfully overcome all challenges and fulfilled their mission’s mandate, for which the state is deeply grateful and extends its highest recognition, Gašić said.
Gašić wished the peacekeepers and their families a joyful Christmas holiday and expressed hope that the next rotation would experience a calmer six months in Lebanon.
The next rotation of Serbian peacekeepers is scheduled to depart for the mission area in Lebanon on 5 December.
Today’s welcoming ceremony was attended by Chief of the General Staff’s Operations Directorate Major General Gordan Pavlović and Commander of the Third Army Brigade Colonel Vladan Milosavljević.
