Prime Minister Miloš Vučević today paid tribute and expressed gratitude to the heroes of the Battle of Mojkovac, recalling that this battle enabled the victory of the army of the Kingdom of Serbia and the breakthrough of the Salonika Front in 1918.
At the commemoration of the 109th anniversary of the battle in Mojkovac, Vučević emphasised that Serbia, the entire Serbian people and all citizens of the country deeply respect the great sacrifice, courage and brotherhood of these heroes, led by army commander Janko Vukotić.
Without the heroes of Mojkovac that Christmas in 1916, there would have been no Corfu, no Salonika Front and no victory of the Kingdom of Serbia’s army in 1918, the Prime Minister said.
He recalled that at that time, Montenegrin soldiers protected the retreat of the Serbian army through Montenegro and Albania, enabling it to survive and then return as a victorious force against the occupiers.
I believe that we will jointly mark all those dates that are inscribed in the history of both states and that we will not be ashamed of what connected us, respecting the existence of the two states and preserving good relations between Montenegro and Serbia. I also believe that we will do many good things together in the coming period, the Prime Minister said.
Vučević laid a wreath at the Monument to the Heroes of the Battle of Mojkovac and attended the ceremonial session of the Mojkovac Municipal Assembly, held in honour of the municipality’s day.
The decision to celebrate Mojkovac Municipality Day on 7 January was made in 2022, in memory of the Battle of Mojkovac, which was fought in 1916 on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, 6 and 7 January, in the vicinity of Mojkovac, on the hills of Razvršje and Bojna Njiva.
