The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management stated today that there are no suspected or confirmed cases of the infectious foot-and-mouth disease in Serbia.
Foot-and-mouth disease is a viral and highly contagious disease that affects ungulates (including cattle, pigs, sheep and goats) and rarely other animal species and humans.
The Veterinary Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management is actively monitoring the situation in other countries and taking preventive measures to avert the introduction and spread of the disease in the territory of Serbia.
In addition, Minister Aleksandar Martinović issued an Order on Taking Measures to Prevent the Introduction of the Infectious Foot-and-Mouth Disease into the Republic of Serbia.
The order prohibits the import and transport of consignments originating from countries where this disease is suspected or confirmed, specifically: live domestic cattle, pigs, sheep, goats and other domestic and wild ungulates, meat and meat products, milk and milk products, other products of animal origin for human consumption, deep-frozen semen and embryos, hides and skins, animal by-products, biological material, as well as means of transport for the transport and transit of live animals.
