While touring the centre, Vučević observed the progress of the construction of the Innovation District within the complex, noting that Kragujevac, already known as a hub for the defence and automotive industries, is becoming a centre of modern technology.
This is a factory of the future, and we understand what it brings to our citizens and our country, said Vučević, adding that the already installed supercomputer is available to users, including universities, faculties and start-ups, with a dedicated section of the Data Centre utilised by the country’s security structures.
The ICT sector is the economy’s fastest-growing segment, with more than €4 billion in exports and a workforce of over 115,000, he noted.
Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment Mihailo Jovanović underlined that Kragujevac hosts Serbia’s largest innovation and digital construction site, aligned with Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade and the Serbia 2027 – Leap into the Future plan.
Jovanović said that the construction of the first Innovation District building will be completed in 2025, with work also expected to commence on the second building and the core of the Innovation District this year.
We also expect an expansion of the supercomputer by the end of the year, which Serbia provides free of charge to faculties, institutes, science and technology parks and start-ups, Jovanović stated.
According to him, with this second supercomputer expansion, Serbia will be among the leading countries not only in the region but in the entire Europe in terms of installed computing power.
