Cooperation with World Bank on new phase of SAIGE project

Outgoing Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Jelena Begović met today with representatives of the World Bank to discuss the implementation of the Serbia Accelerating Innovation and Growth Entrepreneurship (SAIGE) project and its new phase, with a particular focus on the fields of biomedicine and artificial intelligence.

Representatives of the financial institution praised the successful implementation of previous projects, noting that SAIGE is already delivering significant results in advancing Serbia’s scientific research ecosystem and innovation-driven entrepreneurship.

Begović explained that the new phase of the project will allow Serbia to further strengthen the biomedicine sector and the development of artificial intelligence, which will have a direct impact on the economy’s competitiveness.

The World Bank’s Country Manager for Serbia Nicola Pontara assessed that the results of the cooperation with the ministry have been highly successful and commended the efforts in supporting innovation and developing scientific research infrastructure, areas in which Serbia has great potential.

The SAIGE project aims to enhance the relevance and excellence of scientific research, promote innovative entrepreneurship and improve access to funding sources for business growth.

Through this initiative, Serbia continues to build an innovation ecosystem that supports economic growth and international competitiveness.
