Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić announced today that he has declared a red level of security threats from terrorism, after the prosecution declared today's attack on a gendarme in front of the Israeli Embassy a terrorist act.
After visiting the wounded gendarme at the Emergency Centre with President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and Minister of Health Zlatibor Lončar, Dačić emphasised that, in accordance with the red level, there will be an increased police presence not only in front of embassies and state institutions but also in places where larger numbers of people gather.
"In accordance with the rules and instructions of the National Security Council, and since the prosecution has characterised this as a terrorist act, as the Minister of the Interior, I have declared a red level of security threats from terrorism," he said.
According to him, an agreement has been reached with the police leaders to search all locations suspected of being connected to the terrorist act.
Dačić assured that the terrorist act was stopped at the first step and that citizens should not worry, as the police will do everything in their power to protect them.
