After visiting the injured gendarme, Dačić emphasised that this incident represents a terrorist act and that security measures in Belgrade have been preventively heightened.
According to him, although the attacker's identity has not yet been determined, it is undoubtedly a terrorist act directed against both Serbia and the Gendarmerie.
"We have preventively arrested some other individuals who were near police facilities. There are already suspicions that these are individuals known to security services, related to the Wahhabi movement. However, this information is not confirmed," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasised.
He highlighted that all security measures in the city have been preventively increased, not only in front of important facilities such as embassies and state institutions but also in shopping centers and promenades.
Dačić stated that the person, whose identity is being determined in cooperation with the competent prosecutor's office, repeatedly approached the officer in the booth in front of the Israeli Embassy before shooting the crossbow around 11 o'clock.
"The individual repeatedly approached the officer, asked where the museum was, and then returned, opened the booth door, took a crossbow out of a bag, and shot the gendarme in the neck," the Deputy Prime Minister explained, adding that the gendarme then fired several shots at the attacker, who died half an hour later.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the injured officer was transported to the Emergency Centre and is in critical condition, expressing hope that his health condition will improve.
