Violence in parliament part of wider plan to destabilise Serbia

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić stated that never in the history of Serbia have smoke bombs and tear gas, eggs and bottles been used in the National Assembly, as happened today, in the violence by opposition parties in which several MPs were injured.

Dačić assessed that a great shame has been prepared for the National Assembly, but also for the whole of Serbia, and that today’s violence is only part of a wider plan to destabilise and destroy Serbia, by those who invoke democracy, dignity and efficiency of institutions.

He warned that violence and savagery disrupt democratic processes, disrupt the work of institutions and create tension among citizens.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that everyone who participated in the incident that occurred at the first regular spring session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia will be held accountable for their actions in accordance with the law.

He said that violence will never be tolerated and that every individual must understand the gravity of their actions and the consequences they carry, adding that there is no immunity that will protect anyone from responsibility for such behaviour.

Anyone who tries to destabilise and humiliate the institution, which is the highest body of legislative power and is called the National Assembly, is actually destroying and humiliating their own people, Dačić concluded.
