Prime Minister Miloš Vučević stated today that Serbia anticipates entering into a strategic dialogue with the United States, emphasising the importance of the US hearing out Serbia’s position regarding the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija.
Following a meeting with education union representatives, Vučević responded to journalists’ questions about the key areas of a potential strategic dialogue between Serbia and the United States, noting that there are numerous fields where Serbia hopes to converge positions with the US, particularly by establishing a strategic dialogue format between the two nations.
The United States is the leading global power, and resolving major regional issues is unimaginable without its involvement, Vučević said, stressing that it is very important for Serbia for the US to hear out its stance on Kosovo and Metohija, as well as on regional matters, particularly Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska.
Regarding dialogue and cooperation in specific sectors, the Prime Minister noted expectations for this to encompass the economy and energy, adding that Serbia would also welcome closer ties with the US in the field of defence.
Accordingly, Serbia had expressed interest in procuring certain weapons and military equipment from the United States, Vučević said.
Serbia, he clarified, seeks to discuss topics such as the economy, energy, security and cybersecurity, intelligence sharing, migration management and the fight against human and drug trafficking as part of its dialogue with the US.
These are all areas of mutual interest in the bilateral relations between the United States and Serbia, Vučević noted, expressing confidence that these discussions will gain momentum and intensity with the arrival of the new administration in Washington.
