Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met, during his visit to the Netherlands, with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Christophe Kamp.
Đurić emphasised that Serbia highly values the role and support of the OSCE in fulfilling our reform agenda and improving people's lives, and that it attaches great importance to the institution of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, with which it has been achieving high-quality cooperation for years.
The head of Serbian diplomacy said that our country is deeply committed to the protection and continuous improvement of the individual and collective rights of members of national minorities living on its territory and that, although we apply one of the most progressive laws on the protection of the rights of national minorities, we are constantly working to improve the institutional and legal framework, as well as its efficient implementation.
He particularly pointed out to his interlocutor the fact that Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, although they cannot be a national minority, because they live in their home state, continuously face serious pressure and denial of basic human rights due to the unilateral actions of Priština.
In light of the upcoming elections in Kosovo and Metohija, Đurić also underlined that the number of Serbs in the voter list decreased by thousands between the two election cycles.
Speaking about the many unilateral moves of the temporary authorities in Priština, the head of Serbian diplomacy pointed out that Serbs are denied the right to receive salaries, pensions, social benefits and other benefits.
Highlighting that Serbia wants to be a reliable partner in the international community and a factor of stability, and expressing Serbia's readiness to continue good cooperation with the OSCE, he said that we would appreciate the further engagement of the High Commissioner in adequately protecting the individual and collective rights of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as further improving the rights of Serbs in the countries of the region, according to a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
