The Ministry of the Interior said in a statement that 153 individuals were arrested and 23 cases realised in February as part of ongoing anti-corruption operations.
The statement notes that members of the Anti-Corruption Department of the Criminal Police Directorate carried out the arrests on the orders of special departments for combating corruption of higher public prosecutors’ offices in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kraljevo and Niš.
Criminal complaints were filed against 48 individuals in regular proceedings, charging them with numerous corruption offences that caused total damage of RSD 3,497,175,233 and resulted in illicit gains amounting to RSD 2,536,027,623.
Those arrested include numerous officials, directors of public enterprises, representatives of local governments and directors of health centres.
Members of the Anti-Corruption Department of the Criminal Police Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior continue their efforts to combat corruption in the territory of the Republic of Serbia, the statement reads.
