Prime Minister Miloš Vučević today handed over IT equipment to Matica srpska in Novi Sad and pointed out that Matica srpska is one of the pillars of the national identity, noting that all of us must work together to preserve it.
Vučević, who handed over the equipment together with Minister of Information and Telecommunications Dejan Ristić, stated that there were ideas to cancel the Chronicle of Matica srpska, which is now marking its second centenary, but that the challenge was overcome with the help of the Republic.
This is a very nice occasion. We have shown that modernisation does not mean renouncing history, tradition, culture, identity and everything that is the foundation of a country. Modern devices have been put at the disposal of the new generation in order to better preserve everything Matica has inherited over the years, the Prime Minister said.
He expressed the expectation that the construction works on the building will be solved in the future, and that in this way Matica srpska will also be helped.
Ristić said that the relevant ministry will continue to contribute to cultural institutions, and pointed out that the history of Serbian culture, science and art cannot be imagined without Matica srpska.
Many will say that it is difficult to connect digitally with what is the heritage of Matica, but we believe that this connection is something that should be contributed to, the Minister pointed out.
President of Matica srpska Dragan Stanić stated that Matica will justify the great support it has not only from the Government of Serbia, but also from the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, because the new equipment arriving at this institution will significantly improve its work.
