Belgrade committed to building peace, stability in Kosovo and Metohija

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK Caroline Ziadeh to discuss the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and the upcoming regular session of the UN Security Council on the work of UNMIK, scheduled for April.

Đurić noted that the six-month period covered by the latest report was marked by the continuation of Priština’s unilateral actions against the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as numerous incidents, and expressed his expectation that the new UNMIK report would address these issues in detail.

The head of Serbian diplomacy underlined that it is extremely important for UN Security Council sessions, where reports on the work of UNMIK are discussed, to remain open to the public, given the need for the wider international audience to be informed about the challenges on the ground.

According to him, Belgrade remains firmly committed to building peace and stability in Kosovo and Metohija, noting that the success of this process will largely depend on who its counterpart from Priština will be in the period ahead.

Đurić also briefed Ziadeh on Serbia’s position regarding the trilateral agreement on security cooperation between Croatia, Albania and Priština, warning that it raises justified concerns and does not contribute to trust and stability in the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
