Kenya’s decision to recognise independence of so-called Kosovo strongly condemned

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the decision of the Republic of Kenya to recognise the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo.

Such a move represents a gross violation of international law and directly violates United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, which unequivocally guarantees the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, in the year that marks the 80^th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Charter, which the Kenyan authorities have trampled on with this act.

Such a decision also undermines efforts aimed at a constructive dialogue, regional stability and respect for the international legal order. We particularly point out that the reference to the 2010 decision of the International Court of Justice is unfounded.

This decision also represents a sad precedent in the traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Kenya – relations that have been built for decades on mutual respect and cooperation, including within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The Republic of Serbia will take all necessary diplomatic and political measures in response to this unacceptable and hostile act.

We particularly emphasise that in the past eight years, 28 countries have withdrawn or suspended recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, while only two new states have made a decision on recognition. A clear majority of the international community, law and justice are on Serbia’s side.

We will continue our fight even more strongly. Serbia remains firmly committed to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all available diplomatic and legal means, the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasises.
