Prime Minister Ana Brnabic talked today with General Manager of Microsoft Multi-Country region for Central and Eastern Europe Michelle Simons.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of Microsoft, led by Director of Microsoft Serbia Milan Gospic.
On that occasion, Brnabic pointed out that the government's cooperation with this company is extremely important, having in mind the government's strategic priorities regarding digitalisation, strengthening the overall ICT sector and especially the improvement of e-government.
She expressed gratitude to Microsoft, which brings people from all over the world to work in Serbia.
The agreement with Microsoft is the first government agreement that the Republic of Serbia concluded with an IT company, back in 2001. One of the biggest advantages of cooperation is the existence of a local Microsoft office in Serbia, which has exceptional cooperation with the Office for IT and eGovernment.
They also discussed how this company can use the capacities of the State Data Centre in Kragujevac.
Simons, who is the general manager of Microsoft Multi-Country region of 24 countries, including Serbia, pointed out that Serbia has accelerated its path of digital transformation.
We see a handful of excellent examples in the last three years – Serbia is among the leading countries in Europe in the field of ICT exports and the share of women among ICT experts according to our Digital Futures Index, which measures the level of digitalisation, she said.
Government policy and investment in digital technology and services will foster innovation, stimulate growth and drive social change in the future. Together with our partners, we are here to support Serbia to become the digital centre of this part of Europe, Simons said.
Education and health, as well as the possibility for this company to support the development of the BIO4 campus for biotechnology, biomedicine, bioinformatics and biodiversity in Belgrade, were highlighted as particularly important areas for continued cooperation in the coming period.
The future cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence was also discussed, primarily on projects with the Institute for Artificial Intelligence.
Gospic pointed out that Microsoft believes in the potential of Serbia and that is the message of today's visit and meeting with the Prime Minister of Serbia.
We have been present in the country for 20 years, and one of the globally most innovative development centres of our company has been working here for 16 years. We have excellent cooperation with the state in the field of digitalization, with a focus on public digital services, health, education and innovation, he reminded.
Digitalisation is a need of society and the economy, because concrete results are visible that are recognized by both citizens and industry. We remain a strong partner on the path of further digitalization of the public sector and industry, in order to further strengthen the economy, the Director of Microsoft Serbia said.
