Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić said today in Tallinn that it is of great importance for Serbia to take a new step towards building relations with Estonia and other Baltic nations.
Following a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia Margus Tsahkna, Đurić expressed his gratitude for the support that Estonia provides to Serbia on its European path.
Membership in the European Union is a key strategic commitment of the government of Serbia, which seeks to implement all necessary reforms by 2027, Đurić said.
The discussions also covered developments in the two countries' regions. In this regard, Serbia is grateful to Estonia for supporting the EU-mediated dialogue between Belgrade and Priština, which needs much support these days, Đurić said.
Tsahkna said that Estonia strongly supports Serbia on its way to the EU.
Both countries share a passion for information technology (IT) and the digital sector, Tsahkna noted, adding that he is pleased that the two countries have many joint projects in that area, including digital governance and cybersecurity.
When it comes to the security situation in the Balkans, he expressed his support for the continuation of the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština, which should lead to a long-term solution in the process of normalising relations.
Today, the head of Serbian diplomacy also met with the speaker of the Parliament of Estonia, Lauri Hussar.
Đurić assessed that strengthening the parliamentary dialogue and connecting representatives of the two countries is of great importance for promoting bilateral and political relations.
The Minister pointed out that the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Baltic States has been formed within the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and that the exchange of visits by the parliament speakers and the heads of the foreign affairs committees would be significant.
When it comes to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, Đurić emphasised that Serbia is a pillar of peace and stability in the region, and that it has consistently advocated dialogue and constructive solutions.
However, Priština's unilateral moves in the last two and a half years, which have severely violated and stripped away the collective human, political and economic rights of Serbs, have led to specific measures that Serbia will take in the coming period, he said.
According to him, Belgrade wants to revive the process of normalisation of relations, which requires the implementation of the agreements reached so far.
During his visit to the Parliament of Estonia, Đurić also spoke with Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Estonia Marko Mihkelson and members of the Committee.
