Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today with Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi to discuss bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as the most significant global issues.
Đurić assessed that relations between Serbia and China have reached the highest level since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
He also emphasised that Serbia will continue to provide support and actively participate in cooperation within the framework of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s “Belt and Road” initiative, as well as the China-CEEC cooperation mechanism.
According to him, mutual support in issues of vital national interest, which primarily refers to the principle of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, represents a special value in the relations between the two countries.
The head of Serbian diplomacy emphasised that continued cooperation with China will enable Serbia to remain among the top countries in Europe in terms of the growth rate.
Today, as part of his official visit to the People’s Republic of China, Đurić met with Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Liu Jianchao.
On that occasion, Đurić stated that relations with China are very important for Serbia in achieving our political priorities and protecting vital state and national interests.
According to him, Serbia is firmly committed to continuing cooperation with China, in the spirit of the established steel friendship, and this commitment has special weight in the context of the fact that next year we will mark eight decades since the founding of the UN, which will also be an opportunity for the continuation of Serbian-Chinese cooperation on the international level.
The head of Serbian diplomacy once again emphasised Serbia’s gratitude for China’s consistent support for the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, as our central state and identity issue, and added that we also support the One China policy.
