Serbia will be strongest bulwark of international law

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić said today, at the opening of the Ambassadors’ Conference, that our country will be the strongest bulwark of international law, and that Serbian diplomacy will continue to develop in the challenging times that are ahead of us.

Speaking at a gathering at Sava Centar, which brought together ambassadors, consuls general and heads of missions to international organisations of the Republic of Serbia, Đurić emphasised that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must be the main bearer of Serbia's foreign policy response.

He stated that this ministry must also be the main support for all state institutions in conducting foreign policy, in a time that requires us to be adaptable and ready to embrace new technologies and new socio-political circumstances and to respond to them in the best possible way.

Recalling that the Ambassadors’ Conference is being held in Belgrade after more than a decade, the Minister explained that the aim of this gathering is to jointly review Serbia's foreign policy performance in a time that is more turbulent and challenging than any generation of diplomats in modern Serbian history has faced.

I am convinced that Serbia has great, new horizons of cooperation ahead of it, as well as that with the new administration in the United States, with whom we maintain extraordinary and daily communication, we will manage to make a new contribution to achieving peace and stability in our region, Đurić stated.

He expressed the hope that we will preserve and further strengthen our traditional friendships, as well as that we will not violate our relations with any country in the world, noting that Serbia will always adhere to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter.

Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Ana Brnabić said that our country is no longer a silent observer in world politics, but a state that is today active in shaping the future of the European continent.

Brnabić stated that the Ambassadors’ Conference is an opportunity to consider all the challenges that lie ahead of us, but also the numerous opportunities that lie ahead of Serbia's foreign policy.

She expressed her gratitude to the diplomats for everything they have done for our country so far, saying that their role in representing Serbia in the world is invaluable and that she is convinced that it will become increasingly important in relation to how our country is changing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov said that the two countries have exceptionally good relations based on mutual respect.

He said that Serbia and Azerbaijan will continue to support each other on key issues, such as respecting territorial integrity and sovereignty and the inviolability of internationally recognised borders.

Bayramov stressed that Azerbaijan's participation in this conference is another indicator of the exceptionally good relations between the two countries, which, in addition to diplomatic cooperation, also have good cooperation in the fields of economy and energy.

Given that both countries are located at energy crossroads, we must work together to use the geographical advantages of our countries, which are well positioned, so that they can be transit routes and help their neighbours too, the Minister explained.

Bayramov expressed his satisfaction that Serbia has been given the opportunity to host the specialised exhibition EXPO 2027, with the belief that this exhibition will be extremely successful.
