“Considering the complex and difficult situation at the University of Belgrade, and considering that I have spent my entire career working with students at the faculty, I sincerely and with the desire to have this situation resolved, invited the Rector of the University of Belgrade, Professor Vladan Đokić, PhD, to a meeting on 22 April 2025.
It was an honour for me to host the high-ranking academic delegation of the University of Belgrade, personally proposed by the Rector, and I was confident that we started the talks yesterday with the desire and readiness to reach a solution for the benefit of our current and future students, as well as all other members of the academic community.
At the end of yesterday’s meeting, it was agreed to begin talks on teaching. To my great disappointment, instead of continuing the talks, I received a statement through the media that does not reflect the content of the talks that were held, and with the cancellation of the talks scheduled for today.
I consider such a way of communication completely unacceptable and unacademic, where conversations that have just begun are presented to the public as unsuccessful and where a personally arranged meeting is cancelled.
Communication in the academic community should not take place through media statements, but in a spirit of collegiality and mutual understanding. Despite all this, it will still be a great honour for me to participate in conversations with representatives of the academic community.
I hope that a willingness to engage in dialogue will prevail at the University of Belgrade, without prior conditioning,” the Prime Minister said.
