At a joint news conference at the Serbian government building, Macut pointed out that this process has been ongoing for a long time and that Serbia is among the countries with the longest track record and experience in EU accession, emphasising that accelerating the opening of new clusters, such as Cluster 3, will be the foundation of this government’s work.
He recalled that the aforementioned cluster was presented in his keynote address upon the formation of the new government as the basis of work, i.e. as one of the hallmarks of its work, specifically in the areas of education, science, culture and information.
He expressed hope that education will be one of the key elements during Kos’s visit, to support Serbia’s efforts to establish dialogue, to maintain the dialogue that has been frozen in recent months, and that her strong support will help this process move forward more swiftly, so that already in the coming days Serbia can return to the right path in the field of education, picking up where it left off a few months ago.
Macut announced that the government’s commitment to this will be absolute, stating that the members of the current cabinet are experts in their respective fields, and that he is exceptionally pleased that there will be good cooperation with the EU Delegation.
The Prime Minister also noted that, although EU membership negotiations have not advanced at the desired pace, especially over the past three years, Serbia is nevertheless actively implementing all reforms aimed at improving the rule of law, judicial independence and the fight against corruption.
He emphasised the importance of the EU’s New Growth Plan for the Western Balkans as one of the elements that represents a mechanism enabling the acceleration of economic and institutional reforms and a stronger integration of Serbia into the EU’s single market.
This plan will certainly contribute to faster progress in this process and to achieving the set goals by the end of 2026, the Prime Minister said.
Kos noted that Serbia has much to offer to Europe and that Europe welcomes this, adding that during her conversation with Prime Minister Macut, she extended an invitation to work jointly on reforms so that Serbia’s EU membership becomes possible.
She underlined that at today’s meeting, she presented the Prime Minister with an offer for the Serbian people and stated that joint work on reforms is needed for Serbia’s accession to the EU to become a reality.
