Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev officially today marked the start of the work of the integrated Presevo-Tabanovce border crossing between the two countries.
This means that Serbian and Macedonian customs and police officers will be working together for the first time at one border crossing of the first category together in the same "office".
Brnabic said that the opening of the integrated border crossing is a special day not only in relations between the two countries, but also the beginning of a possible new period for regional cooperation in the Western Balkans.
She stressed that the region is full of challenges today, citing Pristina's decision on taxes on Serbian goods, which, she said, has shaken all regional agreements.
That is why regional cooperation is going downhill, the Prime Minister stressed, adding that without economic prosperity there will be no better life for our citizens.
According to Brnabic, Pristina should once again consider whether isolation and self-isolation is the future in the region or whether such an initiative, such as an integrated border crossing, is the future.
We have nothing more important than European integration beyond regional cooperation, Brnabic said, emphasising that we will not wait for Pristina to change its position, but will go into bilateral agreements on authorized economic certificates.
Serbia will remain committed to further cooperation and promotion of the partnership, as the economic prosperity of the region depends on it, she reiterated.
Zaev said the opening of the integrated Presevo-Tabanovce border crossing is the crown of friendship between Serbia and North Macedonia and a major venture on the two countries' common path to the EU.
The Integrated Border Crossing is the result of the Agreement on Establishment of Joint Controls at the Presevo-Tabanovce International Border Crossing Point through which the traffic of passengers and all kinds of goods is carried out.
