Friendship, solidarity of Serbia and Italy reaffirmed during pandemic

Belgrade, 3 November 2020

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic talked today with Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Ivan Scalfarotto about further intensification of the overall bilateral relations between the two countries.

Brnabic pointed out that the new Serbian government is a government of political and economic continuity that remains on the pro-European path and expressed gratitude to Italy for its contribution to the stability and prosperity of the Western Balkan region and active commitment to the European perspective of the entire region.

The Prime Minister assessed that Serbia and Italy maintained a high level of relations, and confirmed their friendship and solidarity during the COVID-19 pandemic by sending humanitarian and medical aid to each other.

The Prime Minister thanked Italy for helping Serbian doctors by sending a team of Italian medical experts during the pandemic.

Scalfarotto wished success to Prime Minister Brnabic in her new mandate and emphasised that Italy sticks to the position that Serbia has a place in the European Union, which is in the mutual interest of both Europe and the Western Balkans.

He expressed gratitude for the help that Serbia sent to Italy during the pandemic, noting that with that act of solidarity, Serbia confirmed its European character.

The two officials also discussed the measures that the two countries are taking in order to mitigate the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
