At a meeting of ministers in Dimitrovgrad, it was emphasised that the topic of improving the capacity of border crossings, both railway and road, between Serbia and Bulgaria is of the greatest importance for mutual development.
We invest, build and design more than 1,200 kilometres of highways and expressways, but when we reach the borders we encounter kilometres of lines of vehicles, primarily trucks. It is something that destroys our economy and significantly increases the costs of our products, Momirovic pointed out.
He announced the beginning of reconstruction of the railway from Nis to Dimitrovgrad, which he expects to be completely completed at the beginning of 2024.
Aleksiev pointed out that Bulgaria, as an EU member state, supports Serbia on its European path, as well as in the field of traffic development.
Bulgaria has started with the reconstruction of the railway from Sofia to the border with Serbia, and the “Europe“ highway from Sofia to the Kalotina border crossing is also under construction, said Aleksiev.
He said that Bulgaria will help Serbia in order to secure financing of a railway from Nis to Dimitrovgrad from European funds.
