China, Serbia confirm mutual partnership, support

Belgrade/Beijing, 6 November 2023

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated today in Beijing that during the meeting with President of China Xi Jinping, the mutual partnership, support and friendship in the political and economic sense between the two countries was confirmed.

Brnabic said in an address to journalists, after the meeting with the Chinese President, that support in the political sense means that China will never change its position on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as that Serbia fully respects the policy of one China.

She noted that the economic relations between Serbia and China are very good, and added that she expects a new era in relations and the improvement of mutual trade after the signing of the Free Trade Agreement.

The Prime Minister also added that Xi Jinping said that he will try to come to Serbia next year, which, as she assessed, is a big deal for our country and citizens.

At the same time, she emphasised that the future of Zelezara Smederevo is completely safe and that the HBIS Group, as the owner of the company, has clear plans for additional investments.

According to her, the next focus of the second round of investments in Zelezara Smederevo is energy efficiency and green transition, and they also plan to make part of the ironworks run on hydrogen, in order to implement the idea that there will be no emissions of harmful gases in the next few decades.
