€21m EU grant for improvement of university infrastructure

Minister for Public Investment Darko Glišić and Vice-Governor of the Council of Europe Development Bank Sandrine Gaudin signed in Paris the Agreement on a grant of the Western Balkans Investment Framework of the European Union in the amount of €21 million for the improvement of university infrastructure in Serbia.

The two officials said after the signing that this continues the effective cooperation that the Serbian government, through the Ministry for Public Investment, has with the Council of Europe Development Bank, which is a long-term partner of our country and a support on our development path.

Glišić stated that the total value of the investment for the construction of the new campus and energy rehabilitation of the old buildings is estimated at €63 million, of which the grant amounts to 30 percent of the project's value.

He explained that these grants in the amount of approximately €21 million will be used to build additional capacities for the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, create teaching and research capacities that are lacking for the Faculties of Architecture and Civil Engineering, as well as improve the general conditions for teachers and students by building common rooms and an underground parking for all five technical faculties (the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) in one block.

The funds will also be invested in improving the energy performance of the existing buildings of the five technical faculties within the campus of the technical faculties in Belgrade and aligning the existing buildings with safety and accessibility standards, he noted.
