The memorandum was signed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Mining and Energy, the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education with Elektroprivreda Srbije, Elektromreža Srbije, the Institute of Nuclear Sciences Vinča, the Serbian Nuclear Society, the Directorate for Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security of Serbia, faculties of economic, medical and technical sciences.
Prime Minister Miloš Vučević pointed out after signing the Memorandum that this corrects a mistake made in the 1980s, when the state banned the production of nuclear energy.
No one has any doubts that the issue of electricity will be dominant and strategic, as well as that investment in this area will be a matter of sovereignty and independence of a country, Vučević said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that this is about peacetime nuclear energy and asked that this issue not be politicised, and that the scientific community was engaged because of it.
According to him, the issue of personnel in this area will be challenging and the Ministry of Education will work on it.
Vučević added that it is possible to develop nuclear energy while protecting the environment and the health of the citizens of Serbia.
I believe that this is a great chance for the development of Serbia. I expect you to work transparently and openly. I am proud that Serbia has such people and institutions, Vučević said.
