President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić said today that relations between Serbia and Hungary are at the highest level in history and conveyed gratitude to Hungary for its support of Serbia’s European path.
At a joint news conference with President of the Republic of Hungary Tamás Sulyok, Vučić said that Hungary is Serbia’s fourth-largest trade partner, with multiple joint projects under way, including the construction of the Pannonian power transmission corridor, which should be completed by the end of 2028.
The high-speed rail to Budapest will be exceptionally significant for citizens, he said, expressing his expectation that the project to build an oil pipeline between Novi Sad in Serbia and Algyő in Hungary will soon be implemented.
Therefore, Serbia has a comprehensive infrastructural, transport and energy connectivity with Hungary, he said.
Sulyok said that Hungary will do its utmost for Serbia to become a full member of the European Union, noting that long-term stability in the Balkans cannot be achieved without European integration.
Hungary sees Serbia not only as a strategic partner, but also as a true friend, the President of Hungary said, noting that his country will do everything it can for cross-border traffic with Serbia to be accelerated through the opening of new crossings.
Sulyok expressed gratitude to Serbia for respecting the rights of the Hungarian minority, which he noted has a stable position and lives in well-structured circumstances.
Earlier in the day, the President of Serbia welcomed the President of Hungary with the highest state honours in front of the Palace of Serbia.
The ceremonial welcome, also attended by Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesić and Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade Tomislav Momirović, featured the national anthems of both countries and the honour guard of the Serbian Army.
