The deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia today adopted amendments to the Law on Higher Education.
163 out of 165 deputies present voted in favour of the amendments.
The amendments to the Law on Higher Education include a 50% reduction in student tuition fees and a 20% increase in the budget for higher education.
The parliament also adopted today the Law on Establishing a Guarantee Scheme and Subsidising Part of the Interest, as a measure to support young people in purchasing their first residential property.
Minister of Finance Siniša Mali said in the debate that the guarantee scheme worth €400 million will be able to cover the purchase of approximately 5,500 apartments, and that the level of the guarantee scheme could be increased, so that an even greater number of young people can acquire their first property.
The MPs also adopted the Law on Central Registration of Beneficial Owners.
The Law on the Protection of Financial Services Users was also adopted, which limits interest rates on almost all types of loans.
The parliament also adopted amendments to the Law on Banks, as well as the Law on Borrowing for the Purposes of Financing the Ruma-Šabac-Loznica Project, amendments to the Law on Foreign Exchange Operations and amendments to the Law on the National Bank of Serbia.
Today, in addition to amendments to the Law on Higher Education, a set of other laws related to the field of education was also adopted, postponing the introduction of the state matura exam for the 2028/2029 school year.
Today, MPs voted on 34 out of a total of 70 draft laws, and the work will continue on Tuesday, March 11, with a debate on the remaining items on the agenda.
