Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić said tonight that the rescue operation after the accident in Novi Sad has been completed and that the final balance is 14 persons killed and three injured.
Dačić stated in a statement to the media that the accident was caused by the collapse of the outdoor roof at the railway station building in Novi Sad.
He said that three people were rescued and hospitalised, including two women who were under the rubble and with whom voice contact was established.
He stated that the rescuers, immediately after receiving the call, were on the spot in a few minutes and added that more than 80 rescuers from several cities participated in the rescue operation, with the help of heavy machinery taken from the Interior Ministry, but also from the city’s utility and some private companies.
The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged all those who participated in the rescue operation, pointing out that the identification of the victims is underway.
According to him, after the rescue operation, an investigation will be carried out, within which it will be seen who is responsible for this tragedy.
