Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia Nataša Stanisavljević and Director General of the International Centre for the Development of Migration Policies (ICMPD) Michael Spindelegger signed today Annex to the Memorandum of Understanding, which defines cooperation in the implementation of projects aimed at support migrants and asylum seekers in Serbia.

Cooperation with ICMPD on improvement of programme of voluntary return of migrants

Stanisavljević pointed out that the main goal of this cooperation is to improve the system of voluntary return of migrants and to ensure the conditions for their successful reintegration.
She indicated that cooperation with the ICMPD represents a significant step towards a more efficient and humane approach to migration management.
According to her, this memorandum enables the implementation of the EMPOWER program, which will support the improvement and functioning of the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme (AVRR) in Serbia in accordance with national, European and international human rights standards.
The EMPOWER project, which is the central part of this agreement, will be implemented in the next two years, with the support of the European Union and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees of Germany.
