Relations between Serbia, Montenegro must be even better

Belgrade/Mojkovac, 8 January 2025

Prime Minister Miloš Vučević assessed today in Mojkovac, following wreath laying at the Monument to the Heroes of the Battle of Mojkovac, that relations between Serbia and Montenegro are good, but that he believes that they can and must be even better.

Answering journalists’ questions, Vučević emphasised that the two countries have a lot in common – close family ties, history, culture and spirituality, but also the economy, as well as the common destiny of the Western Balkans.

I think we are both interested in peace and stability in the Western Balkans, he said, expressing his belief that both Serbia and Montenegro have a common path towards the European Union and that this is also in the interest of the EU.

When it comes to economic connectivity, Vučević said that he also spoke with Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić about infrastructure projects that should bring the two countries closer together.

It is important for me to hear whether Montenegro has plans to continue the motorway from Andrijevica to the border with Serbia because, as he added, this will also affect Serbia’s decision on whether to continue the motorway from Sjenica to Montenegro.

Vučević expressed his readiness to discuss all further projects that are of interest to both countries and added that Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro Andrija Mandić informed him that Montenegro is ready for the reconstruction of the Belgrade-Bar railway.
