Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information Maja Gojkovic opened today the Serbian Pavilion at the 59th International Art Exhibition in Venice, where our country is represented by project “Walking with Water”, a work of artist Vladimir Nikolic and curator Biljana Ciric.

Gojkovic pointed out that this event, which is a unique festivity of art, has been gathering in one place for almost 140 years the most important contemporary authors and lovers and admirers of art.
According to her, this is one of the most important cultural events for our country too, which offers an authentic image of the world scene and gives participants the opportunity to present themselves in the best light.
She underlined that Venice Biennale is also an opportunity to raise the most diverse questions and give, or at least, hint at answers which the contemporary art can offer.
The Minister referred to the importance of the role of Prince Pavle Karadjordjevic in the construction of the Pavilion, in which he was assisted by the most prominent museum experts of that time, led by Milan Kasanin. Owing to this visionary act, our country has been participating in the Venice Biennale since 1938.
