Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić met today with the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) newly appointed Chief of Mission in Serbia Zeynal Hajiyev to discuss improving cooperation in migration management and readmission.

The officials also addressed the fight against migrant smuggling and human trafficking, as well as special measures related to joint patrols by Serbian and foreign police officers along the borders with Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
At the meeting, Serbia was again praised for significantly reducing irregular migration, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Ministry of the Interior.
It was noted that in 2023, the number of irregular migrants was reduced by approximately 70% compared to 2022, with the trend continuing into the current year.
