Selakovic assessed that Minister Dladla's visit to Belgrade is historic, since in the official 32-year history of relations between the two countries, this is the first official visit by a minister of foreign affairs.
Yugoslavia and the Kingdom of Eswatini established diplomatic relations in 1990, but our relations are significantly longer, bearing in mind the fact that our country, formerly known as Yugoslavia, was one of the main protagonists of the anti-colonial struggle, the struggle for the liberation and emancipation of brotherly and friendly nations of Africa, Selakovic emphasised.
The head of Serbian diplomacy stated that our aid to Swaziland, which was the former name of the Kingdom of Eswatini, dates back to that time, and added that our friendship has strengthened over the years of our active participation in the work of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries.
By signing these five very important documents, we have shown our commitment to the development of our relations in the future, said the head of Serbian diplomacy and expressed his belief that Serbia and Eswatini are awaiting a period of more intensive cooperation.
He stated that at today's meeting there was talk of different modalities of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of agriculture, sports, tourism, but also in other areas.
Dladla said that Eswatini and Serbia have long-standing bilateral relations since the time of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and pointed out that the ties between the two countries have always been based on mutual support, solidarity and understanding.
Among other things, she expressed her gratitude for the scholarships awarded to Eswatini students through the "World in Serbia" programme.
The opportunities that the programme brings will serve the young people of Eswatini and secure the future of our country for years to come. I welcome and appreciate the intentions of the government of Serbia to increase the quota of scholarships awarded to Eswatini in the coming years, said Dladla.
She also expressed her gratitude for the humanitarian aid of approximately 35 tons of food products donated to Eswatini during the coronavirus pandemic.
