First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic opened the exhibition "The Kingdom of Serbia and Japan", which was prepared by the State Archives of Serbia on the occasion of marking the 140th anniversary of friendship between Serbia and Japan.

Japan is the first Asian country with which Serbia established bilateral contacts and with which diplomatic communication and cooperation took concrete forms, already at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
Bilateral relations and friendship between Serbia and Japan began in 1882 with the correspondence between the sovereigns of the two countries - the Serbian King Milan Obrenovic and the Japanese Emperor Meiji.
The exhibition is dedicated to the first decades of bilateral relations between Serbia and Japan, which, although the cooperation took place according to standards significantly different from today's, best reflect not only the beginnings of our relations, but also the richness and multidimensionality of the cooperation, such as, with the friendship and mutual solidarity between the Serbian and the Japanese people, we strive to nurture and encourage even today.
